FUTURE HEALTHCARE DESIGN AWARD

We are thrilled to announce we won SALUS' Future Healthcare Design Award for Homestead's pilot project at Hafod Farm!

It was also selected for SALUS' Project Innovation Showcase. This was a fantastic opportunity for our director Heather Macey with Homestead's clinical lead, Andrew Howe, to present the project to healthcare professionals, policymakers and healthcare designers at SALUS' European Healthcare Design Conference.

Homestead is a charitable initiative, founded by Tim Makower and led by Makower Architects alongside a team of clinicians. It aims to build a national network of community-based, holistic and therapeutic supported-housing for people with a diagnosis of psychosis.

Currently, there are no true examples in the UK of ‘therapeutic living environments’ for individuals with psychosis. This critical gap in care leaves thousands without the support they need, creating ripple effects that impact not only individuals but society as a whole.

Homestead Community Network aims fill this gap in the UK’s healthcare system through public-private partnership with the NHS and social care - offering a dignified, transformative alternative to traditional models of care which fosters growth and independence.

Homestead wants to go beyond just meeting the needs of people living with psychosis, and instead provide a holistic approach where residents feel part of a community. By which we mean, residents and staff being part of something together as well as engaging with the local community. Through social enterprise, therapeutic engagement with the natural world and creative art therapies, we hope to provide our residents with new ways to approach life’s challenges.
