DOHA CORNICHE ENHANCEMENT
An iconic destination along the seafront
Makower Architects undertook a preliminary urban design study to explore the extension of the existing Doha Corniche and the creation of new destinations along the seafront. The study sought to build on the Corniche’s established role as a defining public space, reinforcing its civic presence while enhancing its relationship with the city.
At the heart of the proposal is the concept of an iconic 'crescent of lights', giving the Corniche a distinctive three-dimensional identity and strengthening its role as a recognisable urban landmark, both by day and night. This gesture amplifies the Corniche’s symbolic importance while celebrating its continuous relationship with the sea.

The design introduces a clear linear connection to the primary urban spine of West Bay, complemented by a series of radial links that draw the city towards the waterfront and extend the Corniche’s influence inland. Together, these connections position the Corniche as the ‘great connector’, the heart and soul of the city. where movement, public life and urban identity converge.
