OLD DOHA REGENERATION FRAMEWORK

Qatar's first heritage-led regeneration project

The goal of the Old Doha Regeneration Framework of Zones 15 & 16 was to revive the historic heart of Doha through the careful repair of its distinctive urban fabric and the introduction of a contemporary local vernacular.

Encompassing the neighbourhoods of Al Doha Al Jadeeda and Al Ghanem, the framework weaves together old and new, high, medium and low-density development, and a rich mix of residential, commercial, civic and public spaces to create a balanced and integrated city quarter.

Anchored by a new metro station and within walking distance of the Corniche, Old Souk, major national museums and West Bay, the project is strategically connected to the wider city.

The site was a historic but declining urban core; once vibrant with traditional mixed-use life, now fragmented and underused due to decades of change and neglect.

The existing site was a historic but declining urban core. Once vibrant with traditional mixed-use life, now fragmented and underused due to decades of change and neglect.

Our framework vision managed to prevent demolition in Qatari Character Zones (QCZ); wove together a rich mix of uses; successfully stitched the old and new to create a vibrant, lived-in community and a lasting legacy of healthy, sustainable urban living at the core of Doha.
