QATAR ECONOMIC ZONE
Shaping Qatar’s next generation of business districts
Makower Architects won a competition to work on Qatar’s Economic Zones key commercial and mixed-use developments. The site was well-located at the heart of the Qatar Economic Zone 1 masterplan, strategically positioned between Doha, Messaieed and the New Port. Our proposal integrated flexible, modular, efficient workplaces with a vibrant, welcoming and shaded public realm.
Developed in collaboration with specialist consultants, the projects responded to the operational demands of large-scale business districts while addressing local climatic conditions, urban context and sustainability objectives. Our role focused on creating clear, robust architectural frameworks capable of supporting long-term adaptability within this emerging economic landscape.

The site plan: the ground floor is occupied with retail to create street-level vibrancy.

The site plan: the ground floor is occupied with retail to create street-level vibrancy.
The site is arranged with potential to be delivered in two phases, whilst optimising each of the eight building parcels.
Phase One faces the Boulevard and Phase Two faces the perimeter access streets, however they are connected
by two ‘Baraha’ spaces - linking all office entrances to the Boulevard. Two ‘sikkas’ weave between the buildings,
creating vistas and routes to the Souk and the Sea.
Basement parking is connected to a vibrant streetscape via sunken courtyards. Convenient at-grade parking and service
access are integrated around the edges of the site.
